Two Men drowned at seawaters of Rapu-Rapu, Albay

On 23 January 2022, Authorities recovered the bodies of two employees of a private company in seawaters of Barangay Malobago, Rapu-Rapu, Albay. Victims were identified as Jose Ruel Peñaranda, 23, a safety engineer and John Dril Galutan, 32, a safety inspector.

According to Rapu-Rapu MPS, said victims and other co-workers were in Barangay Malobago early in the morning having their rest day. But around one o’clock in the afternoon, the group noticed that their safety engineer was missing after bathing in the sea. The safety inspector allegedly tried to find and rescue him but failed due to the strong waves and current of water that caused the two to drown. It took about half an hour before the bodies were recovered.

Further, the victims are in the town of Rapu-Rapu due to the ongoing rehabilitation of a mine in the town.
