To eliminate illegal logging and protect environmental hotspots in Region 6, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 6 is creating Amlig Panay and Guimaras Task Force. DENR will convene stakeholders to harmonize effort towards environmental and natural resources protection in Panay and Guimaras islands. A multi-sectoral enforcement group will oversee environmental and natural resources management, conservation and protection of the two islands. Amlig Panay and Guimaras Task Force shall have members from national government agencies and the provincial governments of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, and Guimaras. Panay Island has a rich biodiversity. It has one national park (Bulabog Puti-an National Park), two natural parks (Sibalom Natural Park and the Northwest Panay Peninsula Natural Park) and one marine protected area (Taklong Island National Marine Reserve).
