Bagong Calarian, Zamboanga City – Marine operating units under Naval Task Group Tawi-Tawi rescued 13 individuals from their distressed boat at the seas between Mantabuan and Banaran Islands, Sapa-Sapa, Tawi-Tawi on May 15, 2022.

According to NFWM PAO, the Marine troops received a text message from a concerned citizen sharing information that a small local boat was burning in the seas between Mantabuan and Banaran Islands, Sapa-Sapa.

Immediately, a team composed of Marine troops onboard a speedboat departed NSJM Pier, Brgy. Batu-Batu, Panglima Sugala and headed towards the reported location while coordination was being simultaneously made with LGU Sapa-Sapa for possible search and rescue operations.

As a result of the search and rescue operations undertaken by the troops with the help of the locals in the area, 13 individuals were rescued namely:

1. Sukarno Maring 72 yrs old
2. Nelson Tayting 50 yrs old
3. NenyangTayting 45 yrs old
4. SittiSelfaMaring 37 yrs old
5. NurfaizaMaring 31 yrs old
6. SalizadaMaring 27 yrs old
7. Ridwan Maring 21 yrs old
8. HudayfiMaring 14 yrs old
9. Toing Tayting 16 yrs old
10. UbaydaMaring 4 yrs old
11. AlagibTayting 1 yr old
12. NursalihaTayting 2yrs old
13. Rosita Maring 6 yrs old

The team ferried the rescued individuals to Lamion Wharf, Brgy. Lamion, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi where they were provided with medical assistance facilitated by the Forward Support Medical Team of the Naval Task Group.

All rescued individuals were found to be in good physical condition and were later turned over to their relatives in Bongao municipality.

“Your Fleet-Marine team is always on watch and ready to respond anytime and anywhere to save people’s lives,” said BGen Romeo T. Racadio PN(M), the Commander, NTG-Tawi-Tawi and 2nd Marine Brigade.
