The Western Fleet Quick Response (WFQR) team under the 4th Main Naval Base Command, Tanjungpinang, thwarted an attempted smuggling by KM SALWA IVANA -1, Indonesianflagged wooden cargo vessel, on Friday (10 Feb). During its routine patrol, WFQR team Unit-1 spotted a wooden vessel, suspiciously sailing without any lid and intercepted in the area off Teluk Jodoh at position Lat 01° 09.771′N– 103° 58.935′E. On investigation, officials found 368 sacks of cocoa; two hatches of pans, circuit-breakers, stepped-down travos; one hatch of bulb, hot water jars; 36 drums of Jotun-brand paint and other goods onboard. The master could not produce any proper documents to support the shipment. Those goods were allegedly from Singapore that brought into Batam through illegal jetties. For further investigation, the vessel were escorted to 4th Main Naval Base jetty in Tanjungpinang.
