Members of the local police and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources arersted five men illegally fishing in a marine protected area in Barangay Imelda, San Juan, Batangas. The arrested suspects were identified as Eddie Caparoso Diyamos, 41; Florante Rafol Rivas, 41; Joseph Villanueva Calipay, 21; Jomar Beligano Pacino, 21; and Danny Peralta Molina, 38. They are all residents of Bgy. Dalahican in Lucena City. The suspects were arrested onboard an unregistered motorized fishing boat by members of the San Juan Police led by Chief Insp Christopher Guste and BFAR deputized agent Florante Rivera Mendoza. Guste said the suspects were fishing using steel arrows and a compressor called “kapandra” in the area where a total fishing ban is being imposed. Confiscated items include three steel arrows, a motorized fishing boat, at least three kilos of assorted fish, three flashlights and a compressor. They are now detained at San Juan Jail and will be charged with illegal fishing.
