ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Authorities have recovered the remains of a fisherman and young boy, who went missing and who are believed to be have been killed by pirates in the seas off Tungawan town, Zamboanga Sibugay.
Jose Dasillo Bucoy, 37, and the boy were both residents of Purok Acasia, Barangay Buluan, Ipil town.
PO3 Eddymer Hadjarae, investigating officer, said the victims were found along the shore of sitio Tando, Barangay Looc Labuan on Wednesday afternoon.
Hadjarae reported that the victims bore hack wounds on their faces, heads, arms, and legs.
The police said the two victims had gone fishing aboard a pump boat last Saturday. The boy’s father Willie Alimpong and younger brother Romel were on a separate pump boat. Another fisherman,Lito Pable, went along on a different boat.
Police said, however, the two victims went missing while the group was on its way to the fishing ground at Pulo Pinya, Tungawan at dawn.
The elder Alimpong immediately reported them missing and police conducted search and rescue operations. Police managed to find the pump boat but not its passengers.
In January, pirates killed eight fishermen in waters off Siromon island in Zamboanga City.
