The car/passenger ferry Sabuk Nusantara 34 with 171 passengers on board ran aground after leaving Saumlaki port in Jaumdena Island, Indonesia. The accident happened in relatively good weather condition due to navigation error of the duty officer. The vessel hit a rocky shallow, which was not marked as navigation danger and hardly stuck. The hull of Sabuk Nusantara 34 was slightly damaged, but propeller was totally damaged and vessel left without power. All the people on board were evacuated to the Saumlaki without injuries in good health. The local authorities will organize refloating of the ferry at high tide and will follow an investigation of the accident. According to the duty officer and crew the vessel ran aground due to lack of fairway navigational marks in dire waters near islands. The car/passenger ferry Sabuk Nusantara 34 (IMO: 9675016) has overall length of 63.00 m, moulded beam of 12.00 m and maximum draft of 3.00 m. The deadweight of the vessel is 500 DWT and the gross tonnage is 1,202 GRT.
