On or about 06 March 16, the “Napan Wainami” ran aground on rocks in the Wondama Bay in Northern Papua. Some time later high swell took the vessel off rocks again and washed her ashore. The grounding was caused by a navigational error. The 39 passengers and crew safely reached the shore. The ferry was en route from Nabire to Wondama Bay. The hull was breached, but she was firmly aground.
