Iloilo City — Eight people were rescued from a sinking boat by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) based in Estancia, Iloilo.

Lt. Commander Ramil Palabrica, PCG chief in Iloilo, said the small boat sank off the coast of Bulobadiang Islet in the municipality of Carles.

Palabrica said the PCG substation in Estancia received a distress call of the sinking boat Wednesday.  A team of PCG was immediately deployed to Bulobadiang, which is surrounded by the Visayan Sea.

When the PCG arrived, half of the boat was already submerged but all crew members were rescued safely.

Ramil said seven of the eight rescued people were high school students. They were Rodel Gonzales, Justine Vegare, Charmaine Joy Hiasa, Arriane Boromeo, Blessed Lyn Mianne, Izzume Villanueva, and Aira Barres.
