Attempted boarding monitored off Gulf of Aden

On or about 16 0512 May 16, a container ship underway spotted five skiffs approaching from astern while at Gulf of Aden(LAT 14°45’N, LONG 050°58’E). Master raised the alarm, increase speed and crew mustered. As the skiffs closed to five cables from the ship a ladder was noticed in one approaching skiff. Armed team onboard the vessel fired warning shots. Master contacted the authorities and a nearby Japanese warship dispatched its helicopter, which resulted in the skiffs aborting and moving away.
