Bulk carrier NEPTUNE STAR was detained by Malaysian Maritime Police MMEA on Mar 5 and taken to Pangkor island, Malacca Strait, Malayisa, Perak, where she was anchored. Malaysian authorities suspect bulk carrier in illegal dumping of oiled water while transiting Perak State waters, northwest Malaysia. According to local sources, the ship is en route to Europe, but according to ship’s AIS, she is en route from Singapore to Langkawi, Malaysia. Alleged pollution was spotted by patrol plane. Investigation under way, samples are to be taken to determine pollution source. No information given on pollution itself – its’ size and approximate quantity of pollutant. There was no pollution at all, probably. False pollution alarms with ships made main suspects by default, are taking place on a regular basis.
