Cadiz police chief Lt. Col. Gil John Despi said the victim and her cousin went swimming on New Year’s Day. However, they got separated when they went to the sea.

Despi said huge waves hit the cousins, but the victim was no longer seen.

The police also said that based on the statement of the survivor, the victim and her cousin had had a drinking session before they went to the sea.

A search and rescue operation was conducted until the victim’s body was retrieved three days later somewhere in Guimaras.
